When I first decided to go forth with this I was asked but wont most people just do it themselves... its cheaper..
My answer is yes it is cheaper but then I ask them some questions
1. Do you have a scanner that is specifically for scanning of Photos, Negatives or Slides. Most people have a scanner photocopier printer the quality on these is just not the same.
2. Do you have a scanner that can do slides or negatives for you?
3. Do you have days - sometimes weeks to work on scanning your images? Only to get a few done and give up and leave it in the too hard basket and not get it finished.
4. Do you have an image manipulation software that can allow you to make great changes to your image in rebuilding them back to their original quality? Most people have basic software that they can auto enhance but with older photos or slides/negatives you need something more.
This is where I come in. I have the time to work from home and do something that is fiddly and time consuming and its something I enjoy.
I have
1. A proper photo scanner able to do negatives and scan at good resolution sizing.
2. Yes my scanner does slides 35mm and negatives
3. I enjoy working on older photos or manipulating a photo to bring it back to life or simply change to Black & White or Sepia.
4. I have worked with graphics and also worked in an old school Photo Printing Lab. I have an eye for detail and know how to go about getting the best results by using image manipulation software.
Here is a sample of a photo from early 1970s which was off a Kodachrome Slides this would require no extra work or basic Auto touch up, which would just change the colours
